A photo trip around yesterday's GDO to Parcevall Hall Gardens.

You park in what was clearly the old kitchen garden--the espaliered fruit trees growing against the stone wall, the remnants of the hothouse and whitewashed walls where it's been dismantled betray that, and pass by this sign.

Guess where I've been? Wharfedale! And I don't mean t'stereo speakers!

What a fabulous day! It's definitely in my top 5 places to revisit, and soon. Given that Bolton Abbey nearby was madness, Parcevall remained a hidden gem. There were others there but there was enough land to roam that we all had our share of peace and solitude. Picspam forthcoming when I've sorted through the 107 photos I took.

*happy sigh*

A snowdrop walk at the local Palladian style Hall. A pleasant 2 hour ramble.

The Tall Ships' Races, Liverpool. That's the Albert Dock with the Liver Building in the background. It was a mad crush but there were Tall Ships, the sun shone and it was fun.

Today, it being a dry-with-some-sun day, I, with others, visited the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, located just past Carnforth in Cumbria.

It's small, but very good, and with lots of interest. Many endangered animals, for which they form part of a breeding group to help save them, and many rare animals - fossa, mara, degu, muntjac deer, and many rare birds as well as meercats, fruit bats and red squirrels. I took lots of pictures yet again and bought the cutest seahorse from the shop.

Yesterday, I took my passport and crossed the border into Yorkshire to visit the 12th century ruins of the Cistercian Fountain's Abbey, 2 miles west of Ripon, 15 miles north of Harrogate. Set in the Skell Valley, this site is a World Heritage Site and apart from the abbey ruins, there's an Elizabethan house, medieval deer park, and a Georgian water garden complete with neo-classical statues. There's also the last surviving Cistercian corn mill in the country.

We didn't see everything by any means but I'd certainly return another day.

My forehead is glowing like a Belisha beacon, apparently. Spent the afternoon at the zoo, cooing over the meerkats, marmosets, lemurs and otters, and marvelling at the tiger, elephants and gorillas.

Also, I don't think rattlesnakes understand English Parseltongue. I think it may be something to do with my accent... ;)
