P&Q: Quilt -- AVF

Another day of good light, photography-wise, and so I have pictures of a FFO*. I'm behind the quilt rather than the camera today.
Made from a Moda jelly roll and a little extra yardage for borders and backing, I could not resist this fabric collection from the moment I saw it! This was a want it NOW *does grabby hands* moment!
*(FFO = Finally Finished Object!)

I started piecing this in Oct 07 and finished it a few days ago, hence it's FFO status. It's machine pieced and hand quilted. Experienced hand quilters may wince at the size of my stitches but I love this quilt. (And we all start somewhere, right? Bein seux.)
The centre block, showing the entwined hearts and interlace in the sashing.

The wide border, showing the 'ripple' quilting that I drew freehand over each border, depicting waves or sand ripples.

'But why did she call it AVF?' I hear you thinking with puzzled frowns. ;) Yes indeed, AVF is an unusual name for a quilt. It relates to maritime signal flags, appropriately enough. Not that you'll find this signal in the Admiralty Signal book (and I know you won't because I own a copy! lol) AVF is usually translated as 'I love you'; however, the word 'love' doesn't exist in the Admiralty signal book and the signal is usually translated as, 'permission to lie alongside'. Close enough! ;)
Now back to pondering how to quilt 'Instant Sunshine'. That's all from me today! À bi!
